Psychogeographies - Eventi letterari Monte Verità

Forests in which you lose yourself as well as your desires, glaciers as cold as Snow White's wicked stepmother, sparkling lakes from the depths of which repressed passions emerge during storms, gorges carved into the depths of the mountains like childhood memories: nature has always been a mirror of the soul. During solitary walks in nature, but also when exploring cities at night, the psyche and geography meet in a silent dialogue. Suddenly one crosses thresholds that lead into the unknown – a phenomenon explored by the surrealists and situationists in the context of their “psychogeography”. Ticino and Monte Verità represent a unique landscape of the soul. But what is the mystery of the fascination of this “Mount of Truth”? C.G. Jung already reflected on the peculiarity of Switzerland and the mountain landscape around the Jungfrau. And in doing so he discussed the whole world. Thanks to our authors we too will have a close look at this and, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of C.G. Jung's birth, we will immerse ourselves in the archetypal realm of fantasy and poetry.

From April 10 to 13, 2025, the Eventi letterari Monte Verità, in collaboration with the Eranos Foundation, invite you to discover a program that explores the deep connections between ancient traditions and hyper-technological modernity, highlighting how in our post-secularized world we can no longer adhere to exclusively scientific or religious perspectives. 150 years after the birth of Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961), we will immerse ourselves in the maps of the soul and in the liminal territories between the visible and the invisible, reflecting on a fundamental principle: for those who desire change, the first step is to transform themselves.

On April 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., in the Sala Balint at Monte Verità, Riccardo Bernardini, Romano Màdera, Judith Schalansky, and Stefan Zweifel will take part in a round table discussion on the topic “C.G. Jung: the relevance of archetypes”. The meeting, moderated by Gesa Schneider, will be in Italian and German. The proximity to the Eranos Foundation and the 150th anniversary of C.G. Jung will be the starting point for a journey through the psychogeographical landscape of Switzerland, which has become a crossroads of psychology. These themes will be explored in depth in a round table discussion dedicated to the effect of the landscape on literature and the mysterious relationship between geography and the psyche. We will also investigate the current relevance of archetypes and discuss how the collective unconscious manifests itself today: politically, philosophically and poetically.
